In just four days since a chaotic confrontation outside Minneapolis City Hall went viral, the GoFundMe campaign for the "Minnesota Spiderman" has skyrocketed, rapidly passing a staggering $100,000 milestone.
The fundraiser, initially launched to help the masked performer recover from injuries sustained during the August 22 clash, made headlines earlier this week when it netted $7,762 in its first three hours. Since then, driven by widespread social media footage of the clash, public support has snowballed—transforming that initial surge into a massive legal and medical war chest.
The August 22 Incident
The confrontation that sparked the viral campaign occurred last Saturday when far-right activist Jake Lang arrived at Minneapolis City Hall with six other individuals in two vehicles. According to Minneapolis police, the vehicles drove onto the sidewalk toward a gathered crowd, prompting officers to intervene.
As the situation deteriorated, a local performer dressed in a full Spider-Man costume leaped into action. According to the GoFundMe account—which remains the primary public source for the performer's side of the story—"Spiderman" attempted to stop the vehicles from advancing into the crowd. Video footage shared across social media shows the masked figure jumping onto one of the moving vehicles before allegedly being pushed off.
The fundraiser claims he was subsequently punched in the face and tackled by police, resulting in injuries that currently prevent him from performing.
Arrests and Aftermath
Minneapolis police have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the person beneath the mask, though the incident led to a significant crackdown. Following the clash, authorities tracked down both vehicles, impounding them and arresting all occupants—including Lang—on probable cause of riot. A total of 11 people were arrested in connection with the confrontation, and one police officer was hospitalized for injuries before being released.
